About the gallery
What a good cover has to do.
A cover has two jobs. It has to tell a stranger what kind of book this is in a second or two, and it has to make them want to pick it up. The covers above come from very different eras and genres, which is the point: a space opera, a fantasy and a literary reprint each speak a different visual language, and readers notice when a cover gets it wrong.
