Editing that makes the book better and still sounds like you.

A good editor sees what a tired author cannot. We read every page, mark what to change and explain why, so you stay in charge of your own book.

About this service

Four kinds of editing, and you may only need one.

"Editing" covers several different jobs, and paying for the wrong one is a common and expensive mistake. A draft with structural problems does not need a proofread yet. A polished manuscript does not need a full rewrite. So we start by reading a sample and telling you honestly which level fits.

Developmental editing

The big picture: structure, pacing, character, argument, what is missing and what should go. You get an editorial letter and margin comments, not a rewrite.

Line editing and copy editing

Line editing improves sentences, rhythm and clarity. Copy editing fixes grammar, consistency, style and facts. Both are done in tracked changes so you see every single edit and can accept or reject it.

Proofreading

The last check once the book is laid out: stray typos, bad line breaks, wrong page numbers. We recommend it for every book, and we always do it on the designed pages, not the Word file.

Questions

Editing & proofreading: questions authors ask.

Editing improves the writing itself: structure, clarity, grammar and style. Proofreading is a final check for typos and layout mistakes after the book is typeset. Most books need both, in that order.

No. We edit to make your voice clearer, not to replace it. Big changes come with a note explaining why, and you can reject anything you disagree with.

Yes. We match you with an editor who regularly works in your genre, whether that is memoir, thrillers, business or children's books.

Most books of 60,000 to 80,000 words take two to six weeks depending on the level. We confirm the date in your quote.

By word count and level of edit. After reading your sample we send a fixed quote, so there are no surprise charges later.
